What is an adaptor?
An adapter is an auxiliary or intermediate plug that is used as a transition between two electrical circuits. Think, for example, of a telephone or laptop charger that you connect to the socket in order to charge the device. Nowadays, (household) electrical appliances are widely used. Many of these devices require an adapter to charge. Some (household) appliances also work on batteries.
Charging abroad?
Most adapters charge AC and convert it to DC power. AC power is generally used throughout Europe. An adapter converts the AC voltage to a DC voltage. This ensures that your electrical device is charged. Different voltages are also used worldwide. 220-240 volts is common in most countries. In America, for example, this is different and it is between 110-120 volts. Most modern electrical appliances are now suitable for input voltages from 110 to 240 volts. This can be easily charged with an adapter. If the device is not suitable, you will need a voltage converter. This provides the correct number of volts, so that the device is charged safely.
Universal AC/DC adapter
With a universal AC/DC adapter, all kinds of devices can be charged. The biggest advantage of a universal AC/DC adapter is that it can charge different devices. Ideal if you are going on a trip, for example. You can then use the same charger to charge your phone, laptop or digital camera. View all our universal AC/DC adapters.
How does a universal AC/DC adapter work?
It is important that you know how a universal AC/DC adapter works. As mentioned before, the adapter can charge several different devices. This is due to the different 'adapter tips' that come with it. Different devices can be charged with each tip. A tip used for a laptop is different from a tip used for a phone. Often there are 6-9 different types of tips supplied with the adapter. These tips are easily interchangeable.
